As promised earlier, the first game in the Banner Saga series is releasing on the Nintendo Switch. It’ll be out as soon as next week, too.

Developer Stoic and publisher Versus Evil have announced that the original Banner Saga game will release on the Switch next week. The date has been set to 17th May, which falls on the coming Thursday.

The companies announced back in March that all three Banner Saga games will release on the Switch, so expect the second game to drop in the coming months as well. The third game in the trilogy will release on 24th July. Stoic and Versus Evil have confirmed that The Banner Saga 3 will release simultaneously across PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox One and Switch.

No special features have been announced for the Switch version, so expect a standard, vanilla experience throughout. Bear in mind, though, that a major selling point of the series is that your choices in the earlier games carry over into the later games.

Here’s what the game is about:

The Banner Saga is an epic single player driven Viking saga, where a player’s choice in travel, conversation and combat determines the outcome of their own personal story as well as the survival of an entire civilization. The game also features stunning 2D animation and art, a unique tactical combat system and a cast of unforgettable characters, all of which drive this epic journey forward.

And here’s a trailer from way back when the game originally came out:

The Banner Saga is already available on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, iOS and Android. Check out our previous coverage of the series here. You’ll find the series’ official website here.

The Switch is a terrific console for indies. Just ask the developers of Celeste, for example. Another indie classic that’s making its way to the Switch is Firewatch.
