After spending a year on Early Access, Block’hood has finally released. Get ready to build experimental ecosystems in urban architecture.
Block’hood, one of the more innovative indies out there, has released on Steam and GOG.com today, coming alongside its launch trailer. The neighbourhood-building architecture game spent a whole year on Early Access before today’s release, so it’s already developed a heady fan following. Here’s what you can expect from the full, final release, straight from the developer’s announcement post on Steam:
- 5 chapter story mode.
- Localization for: Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, French, German and Portuguese.
- Steam achievements
- Increased max number of Blocks (from 800 to 3000)
- Agents habitats database
- Unlockable constrains.
If you haven’t heard of Block’hood before, the launch trailer does a good job of touring through the various things you will be doing in the game. Mostly it’s just really pretty shots of utopian urban architecture though, where windmills and trees stand alongside solar panels and ballet classes. There’s also decay that you’ll have to worry about, which makes everything duller and moldier.
The stunning, greenery-infused neighbourhoods of Block’hood are built with blocks from an ever-expanding library. Each block has its inputs and outputs, and you will need to manage these carefully as you place them to build up your architecture. There’s quite a bit of smarts behind the sleek look the game presents.
Block’hood is developed by Plethora-Project, which is headed by designer Jose Sanchez. Sanchez happens to know his architecture: to the point that he actually teaches at the USC School of Architecture in Southern California. Devolver Digital is handling the publishing.
