Scarf? Check. Sword? Check. JackQuest will send you jumping and slashing into a subterranean world when it releases later this year across major platforms.

Publisher Blowfish Games has announced that it is releasing JackQuest: Tale of the Sword sometime in late 2018. Developed by one-man Brazilian studio NX Games, JackQuest: Tale of the Sword will be released simultaneously across PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.

The game has you playing as the titular hero Jack, who is out for a walk in the woods with his love Nara. An evil orc named Korg abducts Nara, and it’s up to Jack to mount a rescue for his beloved. To defeat Korg, Jack must infiltrate Korg’s subterranean base, defeat baddies, and solve puzzles. Along the way, he is assisted by an enormous and rather flashy-looking sword that becomes his ally.

Gameplay involves fast combat as well as plenty of secrets and collectibles. There’s environmental puzzles, a single inter-connected world, and even massive bosses to fight.

JackQuest: Tale of the Sword will be showcased at PAX Aus 2018, over at publisher Blowfish’s booth. PAX Aus 2018 will be held in Melbourne from 26th to 28th October.

Developer Netox is composed solely of designer José Neto, who is based in João Pessoa, Brazil. Publishing the game is Australian company Blowfish Games, which is based in Sydney.

It’s a pretty impressive effort from a one-man developer, and we don’t see a lot of games come out of Brazil, so this one certainly looks like it’s worth keeping an eye on.

Indies love platforming action! Have a look at the 8-bit styled Alwa’s Awakening, which is out now on Switch. If you’d prefer a more modern classic, consider Hollow Knight instead.
