tinyBuild has announced that its Hotline Miami-with-teleportation action game Mr. Shifty is releasing next week. Here’s when and how you can play it.
Mr. Shifty has successfully shifted itself into a release date set for April 13th, tinyBuild has confirmed. This is in line with the April release window initially announced by tinyBuild. The initial launch will take place on Steam (PC, Mac, Linux) and the Nintendo Switch. The game has also been confirmed for PS4 and Xbox One, but those versions will be released later.
Mr. Shifty is a top-down action game not very distanced from the excellent, ultra-violent Hotline Miami. In this one, however, your hero has the ability to teleport across short distances, not very unlike the Blink ability from Dishonored. Swish, swoop, bash. It also features a very reactive environment to play with, and most importantly, tridents. Yes, actual tridents. Why aren’t there more games with tridents? This is absolutely criminal.
While you do have a superpower on your side, the game enforces a one-hit-kill rule, so you had best learn to use your superpower super fast. Not unlike Hotline Miami, it looks to be a very skill-heavy game. Like that game, a well-played action sequence in Mr. Shifty can make you look straight up like if the Keanu Reeves from John Wick was playing Nightcrawler in an X-Men movie.
Have a look at the trailer below and marvel at the tridents.
Mr. Shifty was announced at E3 last year, and is developed by Australian devs Team Shifty. While this is their first game under that name, the actual developers have previously worked at Halfbrick Studios. According to tinyBuild, the devs behind Mr. Shifty have previously made Fruit Ninja. The Nintendo Switch port is being handled by tinyBuild Seattle.
