Image & Form’s digging-and-platforming hit gets a sequel in SteamWorld Dig 2, coming out on Switch first. PC and PS4 players won’t have to wait long!

Swedish developer Image & Form has announced that SteamWorld Dig 2 will be releasing on 21st September for Switch. The game will also be releasing on PC, Mac, Linux and PS4 “only a few days after”.

As the title makes clear, this is the sequel to the indie hit SteamWorld Dig, which debuted in 2013 on the Nintendo 3DS. Clearly, Image & Form has something of a history with Nintendo, so it shouldn’t be surprising that the sequel is premiering on Switch.

While the original game followed a proper rustbucket named Rusty, the sequel has a fresh new protagonist, Dorothy. The blue-faced Dorothy, who was an ally in the previous game, is now searching for none other than Rusty, and her adventure will require quite a bit of digging and platforming. While the game should be familiar to players of the original, SteamWorld Dig 2 features an increased focus on platforming elements.

Image & Form has released a new trailer for the game to announce its release date. Have a look below.

In case you missed it, Image & Form also developed the spin-off SteamWorld Heist, which took a radically different direction as far as genres go. SteamWorld Heist, you see, is a turn-based strategy game where you command a crew of steampunk robot pirates and conduct heists. The game was received even better than SteamWorld Dig, when it comes to Steam reviews and MetaCritic score.

Here’s the official website for SteamWorld Dig 2, and here’s the Steam page, if you’d like to wishlist it right away.
