After spending nearly four years in Steam Early Access, The Forest is finally coming out in April this year. Here’s when it jumps out of the dark.

Let’s say you had a baby around the same time The Forest entered Early Access on Steam. Your bundle of joy will now be going to kindergarten, and their fourth birthday would be next month. You can have actual conversations with them, and they’ll have dreams and hopes and opinions about things. And they’ll be old enough to be told that this survival horror game about murderous cannibals is finally releasing.

That’s right, The Forest will release on 30th April for PC. The news comes straight from the game’s official blog, which doesn’t really present much new information beyond the release date. However, we did learn earlier this year that the game will see a price increase when it finally releases. If you’re sure you’re going to buy this game and you’d like to save $5 doing it, now is a good time to buy buy buy.

Here’s a (very) brief explanation of what the game is about:

As the lone survivor of a passenger jet crash, you find yourself in a mysterious forest battling to stay alive against a society of cannibalistic mutants.

Build, explore, survive in this terrifying first person survival horror simulator.

For more information on the game, including its system requirements and such, have a look at the Steam page. It’s worth noting that the game has also been announced for PS4, but there’s no release date for that version right now. If all goes right, though, it should be out later this year.

Also releasing this month is the city survival game Frostpunk. If you’d rather stick to horror, have a look at The Peterson Case.
