Tangledeep is set to leave the confines of the Early Access label next week. Here’s a look at the roguelike dungeon crawler that’s inspired by the classics.
After roughly a half year spent in Early Access, the dungeon crawler RPG Tangledeep is set to release on 1st February. The game will launch on Steam and GOG.com for PC, Mac and Linux, but a Switch version is also under development for an estimated Q2 2018 release date.

The game is set in a world where people live in underground settlements. They have no memory left of the surface world, and the only way to reach the top is through an ever-changing labyrinth known as Tangledeep. You play as a feisty adventurer who’s decided to brave the trials before you and reach the surface no matter what it takes.
The gameplay is largely based on roguelike dungeon crawling with tactical turn-based combat, and it’s complete with permadeath. An adventure mode is also available, which cuts out the permadeath bit. As should be the case with any self-respecting roguelike, the game has plenty of replayability thanks to a dozen different ‘job’ classes available, just like ye olde Final Fantasy games. You can share progress between your characters by planting magic trees, capturing monsters and making use of the banking system.
Tangledeep is the debut project of developer Impact Gameworks, which was founded by composer Andrew Aversa. Aversa has considerable experience in composing for video games, having worked on ReCore and Soulcalibur V. He will be responsible for the audio of the game, but is also be handling design and programming. Joining him are guest composers Hiroki Kikuta (Secret of Mana), Grant Kirkhope (GoldenEye 007, Civilization: Beyond Earth), and Norihiko Hibino (Metal Gear Solid 3, Bayonetta).
