Your mum always told you to finish your veggies, but this may not be what she meant. The Walking Vegetables is headed to PC in only a couple of weeks.

An alien race has invaded Earth and turned all the vegetables into monstrous zombie abominations. How does this affect the global agricultural economy, and how will affect nutritional intake? Answers to these questions and more will not be found in The Walking Vegetables, a 1980s-styled shooter where you get to mow down veggies, fungi and fruits. According to publisher Merge Games, the game will release on 27th September, exclusively on PC for now.

The game features randomised content, so no two playthroughs will be the same. You’ll find yourself dealing with a variety of enemies and bosses as you build up your character with skills and equip them with increasingly powerful weapons. The game has a distinctly faux-retro vibe going with garish 1980s neon and scanlines, and locations include cities as well as the alien mothership.

Gameplay appears to be really hectic, and the game also features a couch co-op mode, so you can have a friend play with you while you share a plate full of bacon or something equally un-veggie-like. You can be assured that getting the groceries has never been harder than it is with this game.

The Walking Vegetables is developed by three-man Finnish studio Still Running, which has previously developed Zombie Kill of the Week – Reborn, back in 2015. They just really like zombies, I guess? The game has a Very Positive rating on Steam, which bodes well for The Walking Vegetables.

You can add the game to your wishlist over at its Steam page.
