Surprise, the next Zelda game is an indie! Cadence of Hyrule will marry Crypt of the NecroDancer to the world of Zelda when it comes to Switch this year.

Crypt of the NecroDancer shook its hips to the tune of the Switch last year, and it made quite the impression on Nintendo. Developer Brace Yourself Games are now hard at work developing a Zelda-themed follow-up to the game, titled “Cadence of Hyrule”. Wait no, that’s not the full title. The full title is “Cadence of Hyrule – Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring the Legend of Zelda”. Yes, really.

Here’s a look at it, straight from Nintendo:

Like the original Crypt of the NecroDancer game, Cadence of Hyrule will feature rhythmic combat in which you must move, attack, and defend to the beat of the music. This time around, the music will be full of remixed Zelda classics, and you’ll have to keep in tune to battle your foes.

While you can play as Link (of course), you can also play as Zelda herself to save Hyrule. The game will be filled with enemies, bosses, and items from the Zelda universe, but you’ll also find spells and weapons from the original Crypt of the NecroDancer game.

Cadence of Hyrule is- excuse me, I mean, Cadence of Hyrule – Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring the Legend of Zelda is scheduled to release sometime in Spring this year, exclusively for the Switch.

The original Crypt of the NecroDancer released in 2015 on PC, Mac, and Linux. Over the years, it has been ported to PS4, PS Vita, iOS, Xbox One, and of course, Switch.

There’s no official website for Cadence of Hyrule, but you’ll find the game’s page on Nintendo’s site here.

Not quite the musical sort? Consider some combat pinball in Creature in the Well, which is also coming to the Switch. You might also like the brutally difficult, yet endlessly charming Cuphead.
