Papetura is a point-and-click adventure made from real, handcrafted paper

Papetura will take you to a world of real paper when it launches on Steam later this year. It will also feature music by Tomas Dvorak.

Creating indie games is hard enough, but some developers really go the extra mile by crafting their game’s art in the real world and then transferring it into the digital one. Polish developer Tomasz Ostafin, who is the ‘one man’ in the one-man studio Petums, is definitely going the extra mile. His next game Papetura has been modelled by hand with real paper—be it the characters or world.

Even the game’s story reflects its papery nature, as is evidenced by the official blurb:

Papetura tells a story about lonely paper creature Pape, trapped in a flowery prison. One day Pape escapes the captivity, and along the way finds little Tura, a magical being that from now on he will be taking care of. Together they will have to face dark and flaming monsters which will try to burn down their beloved paper world.

The game is already a pleasure to behold, but it’s being boosted further by featuring music from Floex (Tomas Dvorak). Floex is a long-time collaborator of Czech studio Amanita Design, and he has been the renowned composer of their famed Samorost games, as well as Machinarium. He’s also released some original albums that you might agree are straight fire, if you’d care to have a listen.

Ostafin and Dvorak are also being joined by London-based sound designer Juraj Mravec, who has been involved in the sound departments for a number of films and TV series, including London Has Fallen and The Imitation Game.
