PlayStation VR Date and Price Finally Announced

Like everyone I was wondering if Sony would lift the Fog of war over their Virtual Reality Head-mounted Display today at the GDC Conference.

Guess what, they really did! No beating around the bush. Thanks guys!

It is available from October (this year!) for $399 / €399 / £350 / 44,980 Yen, and it comes with 50 titles at launch date.

For some this may come as a (pleasant) shock after chocking on the last price announcements of the Oculus Rift for $599 and the HTC Vive for an eye watering $799.

Well here is what you get. See picture below.

The PlayStation VR is containing 1080p OLED True HD display that runs at 120Hz, which is similar on the surface to the Oculus Rift’s display panel.

If you look closely, you will see that there is no PS Camera included. So for those who have that one already you can save the money and get some Move Controllers instead. Well if you have them from your PS3 you should be able to use those as well (unless something has changed). Talking from my (developer) experience. Obviously you will not need those controllers for Cockpit games like Eve Valkyrie for example, but more for those other engaging games where you want to play as Knight for example and use a Sword or Crossbow, or gun etc.

It can also be social with the Playroom VR.

So good (immersive) times are ahead of us, if you ask me. But I guess we will see…
