The Captain is Dead has you managing a disaster-struck starship crew
Coming to PC in 2020, The Captain is Dead is based on a board game that’s described as “the last 10 minutes of your favourite sci-fi TV show”.
Oh. Oh, dear. The Captain is Dead, and it’s up to their remaining crew to figure a way out of their jam. Between a spaceship that needs fixing and an alien force threatening to blow them up, the crew will have its hands full.
The Captain is Dead is based on a board game of the same name that was developed by JT Smith and Joe Price of The Game Crafter. It’s described as “the last 10 minutes of your favourite sci-fi TV show”, and its digital adaptation will release on Steam in early 2020.
Here’s how the adaptation is described:
Based on the frantic and fun board game, The Captain is Dead puts you in charge of crew members on a besieged starship. You must co-ordinate the crew to repair critical systems and fend off hostile aliens, or you will share the captain’s fate. From the Chief Engineer, Weapons Officer, and visiting Admiral, all the way down to the Ensign and the ship’s Janitor, you must combine your unique talents to avoid utter annihilation in the cold depths of space!
The digital adaptation of The Captain is Dead is being handled by Thunderbox Entertainment, who seem determined to turn board games into video games. Their previous efforts include adaptations of Tsuro and Roll For It!.
