The Oriental Exorcist is a side-scrolling demon slaying game from China
The Oriental Exorcist will let you spectacularly slash and stab the demon monsters of the East when it launches on PC and PS4 next year.
Publisher Bilibili has announced a 2D side-scrolling action game titled The Oriental Exorcist, which comes from Chinese developer Wildfire Game. No, it does not involve chanting about the power of Christ compelling anyone, but it does feature a lot of sword-swinging as you take down demons of Chinese myth.
Have a look at the flashy and action-packed trailer for the game:
The game’s combat seems to work on a Stamina-based system, so there’s definitely shades of ye olde Dark Souls in there. Timing and distance are important in this one.
As for the story, this is where things get a bit hazy. We do know that you’ll playing as the titular exorcist and that you’ll be slaying demons left and right. Beyond that, the official story description appears to be translated in a way that doesn’t do the original justice. Here it is:
Using cross-line interlude narrative drive stories to present a bloody and fleshy image of the execute, and the people that two protagonists encounter on the way to the execute are hidden behind their own stories.
Publisher Bilibili is also based in China, and was responsible for publishing Unheard earlier this year, a detective game in which you have the ability to hear word spoken at the scene of the crime. The Oriental Exorcist is one of four newly announced titles by the publisher. You’ll find the rest of them over at the announcement on Steam.
The Oriental Exorcist will release on PC and PS4 sometime in 2020. You’ll find more info on it at its Steam page over here.
