West of Dead is a darkly stylish twin-stick shooter voiced by Ron Perlman
15 Nov, 2019
Announced at X019, West of Dead is a Western Gothic shooter that’s coming next year. You can play a beta right now on an Xbox One, though.
Microsoft’s big X019 show took place yesterday, and one of the highlighted indies came from publishing label Raw Fury. It’s called West of Dead, and it appears to be a succulently dark shooter starring a man with a flaming skull for a head. He isn’t Nicholas Cage, though. Unfortunately.
No, you’ll have to make do with Ron Perlman’s deepest, most gothic voice as he guides your gunslinger through Purgatory, Wyoming in 1888.
Have a look at the trailer that premiered yesterday:
Here’s how the devs describe the game:
A place of gun smoke and darkness, sin and damnation, wendigos and witches. A shifting, chaotic world that takes its form from the memories, culture or beliefs of the souls who pass through. When a dead man awakens with only the memory of a figure in black, he sets into motion a chain of events that have truly mythic consequences.
West of Dead is scheduled to release sometime in 2020 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass as soon as it launches, although it’s unclear whether it will be on Game Pass for PC, console, or both.
If you’d like to get a-shootin’ right away, though, you can try the open beta that’s going on until 25th November. You’ll have access to a place called the Crypt, and you’ll have to watch out for a Wendigo who’s got a bounty on his head. If you do take him out, you’ll get a trophy that you can carry over to the full version of the game.
